Dr. Kim is a third generation Eastern medical doctor who specializes in Korean Constitutional Medicine (Sasang Medicine). He earned his Doctorate in Oriental Medicine from SAMRA University and his Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine from Yuin University. He also received advanced clinical training in China and Korea.
Dr. Kim has served as the Chairman of the Department of Oriental Medicine at Emperor's College of Traditional Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles, CA. He teaches and lectures on the topic of Sasang Medicine nationally and internationally. He also teaches courses in acupuncture, Oriental diagnosis, and Sasang Medicine at several acupuncture colleges in Southern California.
Dr. Kim has written and translated five books: Oriental Medicine: A Modern Interpretation, An Introduction to Sasang Constitutional Medicine, Compass of Health: Using the Art of Sasang Medicine to Maximize Your Health, Science and Tao of I Ching, and Yin and Yang of Life.
In addition to his education and clinical experience, Dr. Kim has also been heavily involved in research that seeks to uncover the mechanics of how acupuncture works. He is a former researcher at University of California at Irvine, studying the effects of acupuncture stimulation on brain patterns as translated by a functional MRI.
Dr. Kim has been very active in the Oriental Medicine community, having served as Vice President of the Council of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Associations and the Korean Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Association in California. He is currently a member of both California State Oriental Medical Association (CSOMA) and Association of Korean Asian Medicine and Acupuncture of California (AKAMAC).
Dr. Kim possesses more than 30 years of martial arts training, including Qi Gong and Tai Chi. He served as team doctor for the United States Tae Kwon Do Team (ITF) of 1988.
